Religious Tour Sample Northern Spain (Christian Itinerary)

Day 1: Barcelona
Arrival in Barcelona Airport where our Tour Director will be waiting for you in order to transfer you to the hotel. Panoramic Tour of the city in the afternoon, where you will see the Gothic Quarter, Ramblas and Columbus monument, Plaza Catalunya, Alcalde's viewpoint, historic Paseo de Gracia, Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Casa Milà, Montjuic Castle and visit to Santa Maria del Mar church. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona.

Day 2: Barcelona - Montserrat - Barcelona
Breakfast in the hotel and departure to Montserrat, an iconic mountain in the area which holds the world famous Basilica with the "Moreneta" or black virgin. Return to Barcelona and free afternoon to explore the city, optional excursions available, dinner and overnight at the hotel in Barcelona.

Day 3: Barcelona - Zaragoza - Javier
Departure after breakfast to Zaragoza, capital of the Aragón region. Visit of the Pilar Basilica, where the Virgin Mary first appeared to Apostle James, telling him to construct a temple in her honor around a marble pillar. After a 2h drive we will arrive to the Castle of Javier, where St. Francis of Javier was born in 1506, one of the earliest disciples of St. Ignatius of Loyola and patron of all missions. Dinner and overnight in Javier.

Day 4: Javier - Azpeitia - San Sebastián
Departure after breakfast to Azpeitia, place of birth of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder ofe the Jesuits. Visit to the Sanctuary, Basilica and its 13th century town. We will continue to San Sebastian where you will have free afternoon to visit the city. Optional excursions available. Dinner and overnight in San Sebastián.

Day 5: San Sebastián - Covadonga - Oviedo
Departure after breakfast to Covadonga and its Sanctuary, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, as she appeared in year 722 to Don Pelayo's Christian army, who shortly after became the first Spanish King. Mass is still celebrated in the cavern where the Virgin Mary first appeared. Dinner and overnight in Oviedo.

Day 6: Oviedo - León - Salamanca
Departure after breakfast to León, where we will have a tour of the gothic Cathedral of the city, known for its stain-glass windows that can be compared to the Chartres Cathedral in France. Afterwards, visit to the Royal Pantheon of St. Isidoro, built in the 11th century. We will continue for dinner and overnight in Salamanca.

Day 7: Salamanca
After breakfast morning tour of the city of Salamanca, one of the wonders of the renaissance art. Its famous university, founded in 1218, is one of the most ancients in Europe. It had famous personalities as professors and students, such as as Brother Luís of León and St. John of the Cross. This is one of the few European cities with two cathedrals, one of the Romanesque style and other in late gothic. Optional Excursion to Hacienda's Winery. Dinner in the city and overnight in Salamanca.

Day 8: Salamanca - Ávila - Madrid
Departure after breakfast to the city of Ávila, famous for being the home of St. Teresa, one of the three female doctors of the church. We will be visiting her place of birth, the Cathedral and the Convent of Incarnation, located outside of the city walls. Dinner and overnight in Madrid. Optional night excursion to a Flamenco Show.

Day 9: Madrid
After breakfast panoramic excursion of the city of Madrid, visiting the Madrid of Philip II and the Austria's, its rennaissance and barroque buildings at the Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa. We will see also the city of the Borbons and the urban style of Charles III, the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, Neptune and Puerta de Alcalá, part of the legacy of Joseph Bonaparte in the XIXth cerntury: Plaza de Oriente and Prado Museum, and of course the contemporanean city, with its big avenues as Gran Vía, Paseo de la Castellana, Salamanca's Quarter, Plaza de Castilla, Parque del Oeste, the University City and and the emblematic Bullfight area Plaza de Las Ventas. Free afternoon. Optional excursion to the Santiago Bernabéu footbal Stadium. Farewell Dinner and accommodation in Madrid.

Day 10: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Madrid Airport. Check in at the airline desk and end of our services.
